Description of Opportunity:

The Camp is held at HMAS Cairns, with a focus on technical trades in Navy (e.g. Marine Technician, Electronics Technician and Aviation Technician roles).  Girls with an interest in the trades are strongly encouraged to apply.



 



All meals and accommodation is provided at no cost to the participant, however they and their parent/guardian are responsible for organising and funding transport to Cairns if they are coming from outside the local area.  Camp staff can organise pick up prior to the camp and drop off at the conclusion of the camp from/to Cairns Airport, Train or Bus station.

Description of Opportunity:
Supported by the 3rd Brigade and the Defence Work Experience Program, the Women in Army Adventure Camp will expose female students to a range of Army careers through activities, presentations, visits and displays from several 3rd Brigade units based at Lavarack Barracks. 


Students will be accommodated on base for the duration of the camp and all meals will be provided, at no cost to the student.

INDIGENOUS OPPORTUNITY 


Broadspectrum is a Defence contracted workshop, based at Lavarack Barracks, that provides maintenance services to a range of Defence vehicles and equipment.  Trades undertaken include vehicle mechanic, fitter & turner, electronic technicians and electrical fitters.


Broadspectrum is looking to increase indigenous participation in the work place and have expressed a desire to host indigenous students for work experience.


Ideally, students will already be undertaking a VET certificate level course in one of the trade areas mentioned above.  If they can come to the workplace with an understanding of workplace safety and basic knowledge of hand tools, this will be advantageous and will allow them to be more 'hands on' during work experience.

Student Requirements: Collect form from Student Reception or download from the Required Documents tab of the Careers Website.

Students are required to find and contact their own employer for work experience.

For general work experience, complete the Workplace Safety Induction course under the ‘Workplace Learning’ tab on the careers website.
Present or email certificate to student reception.

The White Card is required for students undertaking work in construction industry areas such as: Carpentry, Plumbing, Building, Electrical, Drafting and Architecture. Visit www.bluedogtraining.com.au for information. Please present white card to student reception.
